On the question of the wood tool for removing spinners
I have used a wooden block and a metal ended hammer to hit spinners off. The wooden block just helps prevent any damage to the ear.
I now have a mallet that has the leather one side and copper the other - it makes a dent in the leather end but you can buy replacements
I know a few Morgan owners that swear by that rubber mallet that has the metal ball bearings inside to give extra hitting power.
