Your ecu may be locked but if it's a normal after market ecu (DTA, MBE etc) it can be reset and then mapped again as will be needed with the new cams. It's then open for you to play with. Far more important is, will fitting softer cams and remapping give you the power and torque you want?
The suggestion of a bigger engined car has a lot going for it.
A trip to the dyno to find out exactly what sort of power you have might be worth while before you spend on any changes.
