Yes I agree they tend to chomp fuel at maximum output.
The 7-10kW are in the £1k + bracket so not very economic really as an alternative to domestic power.
If you have a remote storage for the car that's a different question.
There's always a loss in energy conversion so it must always be cheaper to use the petrol in your car than in a generator
