How many other car companies would allow any form of corrective or warranty work to be done outside of the dealer network?
Only those that don't have a suitable dealer nearby.
Using non-franchised companies for warranty work is frowned upon for good reason.
Unless meticulous records are kept, the manufacturer has the right to invalidate future claims on the basis that the warranty work wasn't correctly completed.
In this specific case the manufacturer doesn't have a lot of choice and I'm sure it will all turn out well.
I have to disagree that the MMC are handling the subject well.
They haven't advised owners of the issue. They wait until the chassis fails before acting and then they handle each case differently.
They should be pro-active not re-active, especially on a known issue that could result in a serious accident.
It's only because of the unique nature of their market and the tolerance of owners that they haven't landed up in a serious problem with this issue.
