I wonder if that has been caused by a flaw in the original casting
As you say,I can't imagine it it would have been subjected to
undue lateral forces.
I'm sure MMC would be interested to know about it so they can check if it is a
'one off' or more serious;I do hope that they then agree to fix it (and quickly).
Also, if the items are on back order, it might be an idea to have it welded (once MMC agree to repairs) so you can run in comparative safety 'till the replacement arrives.....
