Nick, others may disagree but I see the problem as one of contol, or lack of (assuming you have good quality springs). There is very little room for suspension movement on a trad and this is exasperated by the wide manufacturing tolerances between cars. Peak suspension movement is not constrained as you would normaly expext on a normal system. Unfortunatly various body contact points are used to constrain the suspension instead. Can't think of too many other suspension systems that work like that!
I have installed a simple device for a few pounds that prevents this. It allows me to precisely control the movement of each spring and then the suspension works very well indeed IMO. I beleave it even improves matters by adding a bit of progressive spring rate at the end of the suspension travel too. You can feel the push back from the stops when you go into a hard corners somtimes. And that feels nice
