Very kind comments, but I didn't feel much like a skilled craftsman today. Loads of hassles, like:
- The wings are thicker, which mean the heads of the fasteners under the wing up into the underside of the body tub were contacting the silencer when I refitted it, so I had to re-angle the silencer brackets to drop the silencer down a bit. Which meant that the pipe from the catalytic convertor, which bends through 90 degrees and comes through a hole in the chassis, was now touching the bottom of the hole. Took me all morning to sort that out.
- I have a set of John Worrall's lovely stainless steel bonnet catch brackets (the ones that bolt to the inner wings) and of course because the wings are thicker the mounting holes no longer line up. Simply drilling a couple of new holes is rendered far from simple as the steel used for the brackets must be about 99% Chromium, they are harder than I don't know what. So I ended up having to mount them in my milling machine and use a 6mm end mill to get through them. even with a new sharp mill and loads of fluid it only just made it - mind you it is a dinky little micro mill, not like a proper Bridgeport or anything.
- and of course because I took the decision to space the wings out slightly wider than before the wing stays no longer reached, so I had to make up a couple of extension pieces. 10 minutes with a couple of lengths of ally strip, a drill, and a hacksaw, but it all takes time.
So here we are, the night before Bicester Scramble, and I still need to drill the wings to mount all the lights. So sorry all, I'm not going to make it!
