Stuart has a point: the part might be weak and unreliable but that does not mean, it breaks on everyone after 4000 miles.
My recommendation would be: include the water-temperature gauge in your instrument scan if you do not do this anyway.
I have been told, that the radiator’s connection to the water hose could be giving in with a quiet pop and the water then slushing out unnoticed.
So watching the gauge closely is a good measure.
