Providing power sources on residential streets sounds an absolute nightmare and will be hugely disruptive. The whole issue of replacing ICE with EVs is going to be beset with problems, from providing an infrastructure throughout the UK that will successfully replace the ease in which we can refuel at the moment, changing drivers mindsets regarding planning journeys to the impact of providing enough materials to build all the motors, batteries etc.
It’s easy to say that we will end up not owning our cars but will just hire one from a pool when required but that for most of us will be a huge step that won’t be easy to take.
And for those of us living out in the country with poor public transport, not an easy thing to arrange.
I can’t help but think that we are being led astray by the “easy” option of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuelled vehicles would be a better way to go. Or......spend more effort into really cleaning up petrol and diesel emissions at source and go hybrid. Not the longest term solution perhaps.
The next decade or two is going to be very interesting and a huge change in motoring. Let’s hope the Government is up to the challenge!
