We have done some longish runs recently, mainly on the Autostrada. I can assure you that when you need to do long distances hood up is much more comfortable and even saves fuel. Mind you in the summer heat it is also an advantage to have aircon, which we have.

When we were at our destination it was hood down and sidescreens off for all the shorter jaunts that we did.
