Many thanks one and all for your replies. I bodged up a tool (very similar to the Ledgerwood device), put a 2 foot knuckle bar on it and put a trolley jack under the handle. Then put enough tension on the jack for the tension on the bar to get scary then bashed the tool with a club hammer and …. the blessed thing moved. Had that not worked it was going to be out with the heat gun. If anyone is interested I am proud to tell you my nuts come greased. The question now is … how tight do I do them up? No one told me owning a Morgan was going to be this testing. What fun.
