The CX platform and modernisation would mean a future proofing ability. As my age trundles along at what stage would I want to reduce the hands-on requirement and move to a jump in and go Morgan?
I enjoy the tinkering and routine checks but many of those would disappear. OK, the engine side would need dealer/independent garage facilities for other than basic fluid work. The electrics are likely to be more critical too, depending on how much of the BMW sensor inputs are removed for a Morgan.
Yes, it is a big chunk of money but the visual appeal of the design is still there. There is no room for keeping the trad plus it would need to be included in the deal for money maths.
A test drive is a must too. Besides the comfort factor how would it compare to the Plus8 as a driving sensation?
Adjusting to the engine characteristics is, I think, not that big a hurdle as the power/torque spec on paper looks decent. Will I miss 3000rpm in 3rd gear? The Plus8 comes alive and fills the ability to move a bit if needed.
It might be a case of upgrades to the trad instead. That was the case when I had the 4/4. Driving the Plus8 and feeling the differences was the clincher.
The bottom line is that a CX is a Morgan. Forget the denial of it not being one due to the changes. The Morgan community will remain and that is a huge attraction. It led to swmbo buying in to us having the car.
