I ran through the pump replacement over the weekend and am pleased to report that all went to plan. It seems that my convoluted hoses were actually the same size, so the (very good I must say) instructions needed a little interpretation at that point, but it was soon pretty obvious quite which hose needed removed. I like the sound of the beefy new pump and after 4 or 5 primes the air bubbling noises stopped and the car started first time. Only managed a 20 minute or so drive (it was an essential jouirney, after all...) but all drove just the same as it did before. Hopefully this staves off any future issues, although my 7 year old and 16,000 mile original pump showed no signs of problem before now. I will probably carry it with me though, just in case (although I don't relish the job of replacing that at the roadside....)
