I was reading some old post from a few years ago about someone's bevel box freezing up and causing an on-road incident. There were other posts where owners found there was no oil in the bevel box. This has me worried and I have a few questions:
1. What does the bevel box noise sound like? Are there any videos of it?
2. Where does the bevel box noise originate from? Front of the car, the rear of the car? I have an annoying rattle that seems to be coming from behind the seatback ... might that be the dreaded bevel box noise?
3. How may I check my bevel box oil level? Exactly where are the drain and fill points located? How do I access them? Do I need to lift the vehicle to access them?
4. I've ordered some Redline 80W250 gear oil and will replace the oil as soon as I get it. What are the steps for changing the bevel box oil?
Please excuse me if my questions are elementary. But I would much rather ask and get the right answer and do it the right way.
