You may have ground problem, or really a lack of ground problem. The other turn signal wire (WHITE) is ground. Recall that the turn lights are all plastic... Not sure where the ground is for the new lights, but I'd verify that all the ground wires are connected properly. A back-feed ground can cause all sorts of strange behavior.
