One of our own TMers does more for the community in a week than I do in a very long time. I won't name names, but he volunteers at a local foodbank and has harrowing stories of young professionals with mortgages, families, and car loans who are without work and desperate. It's not just about the stereotypical poor any more.
He volunteered and drove most days for the NHS at the start of this crisis, despite being in a high risk group. I expect that this year, as in previous years he will be volunteering in a cancer ward at a large hospital on Christmas Day. Most of us could do more to help our communities but making that first move is hard, especially as things are, and yet its never been more needed.
A woman at work used to volunteer feeding the homeless in Sheffield. They used to sleep under the town hall shelter overnight in huge numbers. Then the Town Hall was demolished.
These people are saints. I can only look on with complete admiration and respect.
