Bear in mind that the above advice is for a mount to fit Garmins. The Alternative Parts List has a source for the smaller threaded ball to fit TomToms. I cut the head off a 6" bolt which we substituted for the LH lower dashboard fixing screw. We secured it with a 15mm long nut and screwed the ball onto the other end. Simple.
