But why buy the RAM ball with the female socket and then have to cut a bolt when you can buy the RAM version with a bolt?


I remember there is a M6 version. But it's just 6mm long. The screws of our dashboards are 20 mm (standard) or 35 mm (heritage). That's why I did not used the M6x6mm RAM ball. As this ball will be holding a large smartphone and under heavy vibrations, a long thread with locktite is IMHO needed. With 6 mm thread insert, I bet this ball will get loose permanently.


On mine the RAM ball had a through hole and came with 3 different length M6 bolts - the longest of which was good for the standard dash.

The RAM parts list is a bit of a minefield!
