Not heard of any plans for G56 to stop production of M3W parts. If anything I would think their market is improving as M3W values increase and people think it is worth spending more on their cars to improve them. Unlike many cars where a standard version is often worth more than a modified one, values for "improved" cars are higher than a not very good or useable standard car.
Ian, I suspect you're correct. It's naive to purchase an early, 'stock' 3W without contemplating the upgrades that are pretty much de rigueur to keeping them on the road. Pay me now or pay me later. Humans (like our beloved 3W's) may only have a 9-month gestation but still require 2x the nurturing (owner-supplied improvement) to be mobile. Here in the U.S. even the earliest uncured '12's seem to have a $40k floor. I've not seen a fully sorted later model come to market.
Also, comparing the Speed 3 to the 3W, like digital vs. analog, there will always be visceral attraction to the analog. Let's just hope you're correct about third-parties stepping up to production of replacement parts. I try to compartmentalize my affection for the car from disappointment with MMC and to a lesser extent S&S for the abandonment.
