A neighbour is a teacher and she told me that during lockdown, when they offered lessons via the internet, they couldnt start them til 10 am because the kids were in bed and even afterwards fewer than half bothered to participate.

Worse today - had 4 out of 27 in my first GCSE class, and 5 out of 29 in my second.

Penultimate day in school. so we were just doing 'catch up' so not too distruptive, but makes you wonder why I bothered doing a 25 mile drive in. Some parents let us know that it was due to heat, but many parents didn't bother. We also had to contact all the absentees as we needed to make sure they were at home, parents knew they were at home (not bunking) or that they hadn't gone astray on the way to school. School has 1900+ kids so admin staff couldn't do much else today.

We get similar issues with snow (even though we have two snowploughs on site to keep it clear). Perhaps indicative of modern parenting?

In lockdown we instigated a registration system, kids had to be logged on by 9.15am at the latest. We contacted parents if they weren't. We had about 90% attendance most days.
