Something else rather wonderful came our way this afternoon. Lady of the Wings spotted this Jersey Tiger Moth on one of our front windows. The lower set of wings are reddish-orange, lovely to see in flight (wingspan is approx 50mm).
Not sure if they blow in from the Channel Islands, or we may have a tiny colony. We have kept a wild area in our garden which includes nettles, brambles and borage which apparently they enjoy. I did see one a couple of years back, but "it got away". [Note to self: our window cleaner's visit is well overdue !]
