Am I missing something ? our Audi A1 returns 60 mpg and petrol here is £1.60 a litre thats approx 12p per mile.
I would say that what you are missing possibly is that many people aren't switching to EVs for solely economic reasons. Some of us actually want to reduce our carbon footprint. Consider for example that each gallon of petrol you put in your car has already consumed about 6KWh of electricity in its production, which is enough to take an EV 25 miles or so.
