Everyone will have their own unique use-case when comparing running costs. I switched from a supercharged Range Rover to a Tesla for commuting purposes and have saved a considerable amount over the past 22,000 miles. The Tesla is currently costing 6p a mile Vs 44p a mile in the RR. Even with the October 1st price cap, the EV will still be significantly cheaper. Added to which there's no servicing, road tax or congestion charge.... at the moment at least.
But the gap is closing for more 'normal' comparisons. At 52p per kWh (the new October rate I think) the price per mile will rise to around 13p, still cheaper than the RR - but in the range of an awful lot of ICE engines. It could cause a dip in EV sales for those in the market for a new car and comparing running costs.
