That I as an installer have to jump thru hoops to get a connection agreement with a DNO - if there was nothing going back to the grid then they (DNO) wouldn't bother getting me to complete pages of technical paperwork to make an application.


I think there might be a bit of difference of perspective here. The supply industry (or at least, the supplier I worked for) considers the term 'National Grid' to include the Transmission and Distribution networks, but from the perspective of the National Grid company it only embraces the Transmission Network as that's the bit they are responsible for.
