Not meaning to say you are wrong. Is this not a first world luxury issue? 2035 is Europe and engines are made for other parts of the world? Low volume rules would allow someone to import something and fit it to a broad range of things.
Toyota are still making petrol and diesel for other markets quite happily. North America is making all sorts -
https://www.cummins.com/engines/pickup-truck 6.7L diesel? They may need some adjustment to make them suitable for our profit minded local gulags but they will not stop making them?
If we take it from the point of view of protecting the Biosphere I would love to know how efficient 1 mile of an average BEV vs Diesel car is on warming. How much energy gets consumed in delivering the power from source to heat generated+pollution+1 mile of movement for 2 people. The efficiency of the production and distribution chain.
I understand why we need to change but someone needs to hold these fools accountable for the cart before horse moment we are facing. If they said it would be based on the availability of solid state batteries, distribution of power points, 800v charging (so time spent on top up was short) and a sensible incentive program I could respect them. Instead we get ready-fire-aim. Nothing to do with forcing additional income on new car replacements given a BEV to ICE match brings a minimum of £10k additional price on which they get VAT, Tax etc? Okay I will admit to being cynical but between soundbytes and the impact this will have on lower income families I feel this needs justification?
