I think the term applicable to the above may be.. built in obsolescence... it is suggested that when the light bulb was perfected such was the design of the filament that it could last forever, thus an alternative material was saught that did not last wuite as long.. Could be an old wife's tale...? Some time back the likes of domestic appliances were seemingly built to last circa ten years, which in time was cut back to 3 years...?
