Correct. As discussed in another thread, when the "hard times" began in the early 2000s, the MMC began look for ways to save money. In this area, they abandoned the traditional windscreen pillars, at one time chromed bronze (up to some time in late 1970s, then chromed steel (the chrome would flake), each in a two piece format which made windscreen removal and re-installation easy. Then the MMC turned to coated pot metal or "monkey" metal as you say. The supports inevitably rotted completely.
However, the trads could benefit from polished stainless steel from the trad aftermarket (Worrall). But even if John was still in business, I am not sure HIS would fit the new generation of Morgans. Morgan shapes change and the CX cars do not have the same frame, body etc of trad cars.
Actually, trad models and eras are often different from each other. However, the good Mr. David Vodden of ThamesMog found a method of refurbishing these things.
