The Sport was a cost effective way of ramping up production when demand was high, now demand has tailed off it makes sense to maximize the return on each car, which of course the bespoke models do. Second hand values of all trads will be enhanced by cutting output. The +4 Sports was probably the least popular, it was the last Sport to the market and +4 buyers are probably the most conservative of trad buyers, more likely to choose the bespoke route. The other factor is dealer allocation, as I understand it the dealers forecast how many cars the want for the year ahead and then are contracted to receive that allocation throughout the year, cars not ordered for an individual customer are specced by the dealer for showroom stock. It makes little sense putting a Sport into stock because you have no edge over a rival dealer and any buyer will phone round and round for the best deal.
