Clipper, I too like many who had owned air cooled Porsches did not like the idea of water cooling changing and the sounds associated with the new engine, the fried eggs were indeed thought to be a step too far, perhaps more so in that they were also to be found on the less expensive Boxter caused issues for some..? I note that in more recent times it seems some folk seem to be suggesting that there may be a degree of "collectability" associated with the 996 because of it`s headlamp design, and perhaps promoting that the design was taken from Porsches 1988 GT1 24 hrs le Mans race cars. The one advantage I did quite fancy in the 996, was the chances that with water in the engine, the heater output might be a tad more efficient...?
Budster... I feel too old to drive my Morgan on most days when the air is cold, though I can be comfortable driving my C4S any day, but then, I guess much depends upon who one might define "drive"...(-:
Driving a PDK Porsche is considerably more simplified than driving a Trad Morgan, and more comfortable too. Making use of the Porsche`s flappy paddle, pushing a few buttons to select sports mode and open up the exhaust to be a tad more ..err..musical when in the mod to do so, can alter things considerably. I suspect we choose to own that which we feel some degree of emotional attraction too, and without doubt I am a tad emotional about both my old Morgan and Porsche.. For me heritage plays a big part in that, and relative to both machines, all the hand built historical aspects of my Morgan, and all the quality engineering associated with Porsche as a marque winning in just about every type of race from Paris Dakar to LM 24 HRS, and everything in between...Whereas a Tesla is for me, is just a modern competent transportation device that more suits the old man I have become when involved in more routine drives in busy traffic.. Not that I do much of that either.. .
