Buy something like an old +8 or MGB etc and spend your time tinkering - and trying to get up from the garage floor to find where you put the spanner you were using 30 secs ago!
But that's the fun! I may have a change of heart when I'm old and decrepit, but at the moment I'm a sprightly (!) 54. Got no plans over easter so looking forward to doing a full polybush upgrade on the MGB, oil and filter change on both, and a bit of investigative work on the Mog to try and rectify a 'clunk'. There is joy in work.
Buy something exotic like a Porker or a Ferrari - and spend your time worrying about the next dealer service bill
And the beige driving experience at realistic motoring speeds.
Buy something cheaper and reliable like and MX5 and be bored
There is great fun to be had in driving a lower performance car to its limit, I had great fun hooning around in my little Vx Corsa 1.2 and would occasionally surprise the odd German motor who could drive superfast in a straight line, but unable to use a steering wheel at the corners. The only reason I got rid of it was the overly complicated mechanics, taking pleasure away from maintenance. When I get too old and decrepit for maintenance I reckon an MX5 will fit the bill perfectly.
