Regarding Ireland: Took the Morgan to Dublin this year and then down to Cork and then the Ring of Beara.
We stayed in Trinity College, handy for our first visit which was the Book of Kells. You start by visiting the university library, which currently has no books, as they’re removed conservation. So there a a lot of audio-visual displays instead. Then off to the see the actual book. There’s only one book, so the rest of this building is audio-visuals. Then into the building entitled The Book of Kells Experience. This is an exhibition almost exclusively populated by audio- visuals.
We then went to the Museum of Emigration. Unfortunately, when people emigrated, they took their possessions with them, so the exhibition has no artifacts, but instead has 16 rooms, each with an audio-visual display.
Then we went to the GPO building, where there was a display including a sandbagged position and rifle as used in the rising. This was followed by a 15 minute audio-visual presentation on the rising.
Next stop was the Guinness brewery. Unfortunately there’s not much to see in a brewery but pipes and vats. So we were treated to 5 floors of audio-visual displays, of which one was a 5 minute audio-visual display on barrel making.
Part of our ticket provided for a free pint. There are only bars on the 6th floor, but when we asked for our pint, the barman said “oh no sir don’t drink in here , you need to go to the 7th floor, that’s a better place to have your pint”!!
I needed my pint after that lot.
Ps. If you go, try to get a table at the Trocadero. Recommended.
