I certainly don't know the material science details or metallurgical ins and outs of the screen pillar coating issues, but......... I never understood how MMC weren't able to make the coating stick to the metal.........!
It always seemed like a fairly basic task......🤷🏻♂️
The finnish would bubble up very quickly from new.
A lot of cars also have bodywork paint bubbling issues, edges of rear wings, corners of doors, the panel below the doors, bonnet corners....... infact...... most of the car....😆
Is it a paint issue, an aluminum issue, an application issue...... a bit of everything....?
I think land rover had similar problems getting the paint to stick to the aluminium....🤷🏻♂️
*****Doubtless there'll be folk outraged at the very suggestion that MMC have ever had QC issues and will maintain that their car has never suffered from any faults.....!!😆******
To be honest I would suggest its poor preparation and poor application of the paint material's, possibly is there moisture or contaminates under the paint and/or poor post paint handling and assembly . You eg see bubbling around the wing indicators which questions whether the paint is either thinly applied in that area, chipped or exposes bare metal when putting the small side indicators in.
It just takes me back to the pre 1985 days, when the cars were painted with the wings attached, with spray on all wing beading that used to crack with the chassis flex and the inner untreated body and wings used to rot away, especially if steel body and ally wings/ Every time I came back from a drive in my CVH, I had to get the touch up paint to fill in the cracks in the beading, otherwise if left rain and moisture would get in-between and accelerate the corrosion process. So I suppose on reflection things have improved but not by much.
It kind of reminds me of the cellulous painted cars, when new they would look really pristine then within months the brilliant finish and shine would wear off.
