Well, not everybody drives a 4/4, so somebody might benefit from a PAS. The real advantage is on twisting country roads, more or less spirited driving. It is so much easier to place the car where you want on the road, make quick corrections, adjust your course or avoid an obstruction. I would say PAS increases safety while driving. On the highway the speed is so high that you rarely need PAS, and while parking you always get along if the car is in motion, although it is a bit cumbersome. A 4/4 with skinny tyres might not need it (although I am sure it would be an improvement), on my Roadster it was a massive change to the better. A front-heavy +8 will definately benefit, as the other variants, in my opinion. I see no conflict with the "Morgan ethos". I would not fit PAS on a Bentley Blower, but a Morgan is no classic car but a strange but charming creature they forgot to stop making. So why not make life a little easier - and safer.
As for brand, I can recommend the Dutch Ez Electric Power Steering,
www.ezpowersteering.co.uk. Quite a few have fitted this here i Norway, all very happy. No fabrication of extra parts. You swap your steering column for another, with the electric motor already installed. Not i DIY job though, unless you are quite skilled. You get it with manual control or speed dependent. I prefer to be in charge myself, so I went for manual. It is mostly on full power, I might reduce it somewhat on the highway or the like. Strongly recommended.
