Whist at Allon White this morning I did ask them about it. I was told they had indeed had customers with P6 and 4 with similar complaints which had eventually been traced back to the wiring loom portion under the near side dash area (there is quite a bit of wiring in that area).
So, by a process if elimination, I will try all of the above recommendations and report back.
