Lorne not "Loam" actually. But I don't mind. I am called many things. laugh2

I am not sure why you would use the thicker yellow petrol-proof PTFE on plumbing jobs, but I confess to have done if it is nearer at hand. I have not had the problems you speak of. The tape has become a standard in many modern automobile cultures. The residual bits, if any, can be removed with a needle or any abrasive. However, in my experience and logically, the only key is not to cover the first two threads and wrap in the right direction. Assuming a bit of common sense, mechanics is not the mysterious black art we are brought up to believe it is. Trads are the most susceptible to well-advised owner interaction I have ever come across. But stay cautious. Caution and patience are the best tools in your kit.

Good luck Zack!
