Just wondered what the collective wisdom on adding to whatever weatherproofing already exists on a new car before it encounters rain, salt etc. Have heard suggestions to run a light oil down the seams. Would warm Waxoyl be ok for this? Any suggestions gratefully considered  Regards, Nick

Nick, yes you should run light oil or suchlike down the beading on the bodywork. I'm not sure Waxoil is the right thing....it will so semi solid and prevent you applying more later. You can use a thin oil like 3 in 1; I use ACF50 which has great creep properties and is also a useful spray for spraying other areas to prevent salt damage.

ACF50 seems to work for me too! I used to use a very light oil but changed to ACF. If its good enough for the US navy airforce then ...... As well as keeping the joints clear it reduces (seems to stop) creaks too. Now for the sidescreen creaks.......

I need to try to get something similar into the rolled wing edges. The thought of galvanic corrosion is not a nice one...

I don't like being reminded that winters on its way !
I used ACF 50 on my three wheeler and was very impressed when I cleaned it off in the spring .

Yes Nick, I did the BHM maintenance workshop and that was one of the things Keith recommended. I too use ACF-50 because it's very thin and has great "creeping" characteristics. I also use it on other bits of the car, electrical connections, inside of bumpers, chromework, door locks, basically anywhere that metal and not painted.

can you buy it other than as a spray? internet shows spray only.? Pete, you can get it in 1litre bottles with a pump spray (which I prefer), 4 litres or even 20 litres, which would last many lifetimes unless you were using it commercially or sparying an aircraft! www.acf-50.co.uk lists retailers and online details
