Folks, I just purchased the performance air filter kit below (for £119 including postage): www.knfilters.ca/search/product.aspx?prod=57-0686I also purchased a cold air induction pipe from RevTech (£45 including postage). Last night I removed all of the standard air induction (and very heavy) kit and plan to install the above as soon as it arrives. I had not planned any ECU remapping. Any advice, words of caution or otherwise before I proceed. With regards Garret

I too wanted to convert to a cold air induction system but being a Yorkshireman baulked at price of systems on offer so.... I have a Wolf performance front valance on my 2014 4/4 with brake duct inlets and thought I could make a cold air induction system using these inlets. Fitted a KN filter in standard air box and made up the collector box and ducting below...total cost of ducting + black guttering from B+Q was 35 pounds....and it does make a difference |||

Thats very neat! I made up something similar but not as sophisticated (!) but I liked the idea of getting rid of a lot of the standard air-intake stuff. It is expensive and I will let you know how I get on.

I would be wary driving through standing water or a ford.

The GDI Plus 4 at Geneva last year had ducting leading over the top of the radiator. Less chance of picking up water in deep puddles or in crossing a ford. I think I would wrap the intake tube with a heat reflecting material however.

There are a lot of cars that have air intakes in the bumper and at the bottom of a wheel arch, so the wadding depth is not that bad all considered. But a deep ford is a know know. As a point of reference on my 2009 Sport the air intake pipe was zip tied to the bottom of the Chassis as it came from the factory so not much difference in hight and that is behind the front wheels which I found more alarming than my new position Behind the grill to the Near side. Can be viewed here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=...e=1&theaterThis is not recommended at all, we have forded the Mog with a rubber floor over the grill with a good bow wave no water was ingested by the engine but the cockpit did start to filled with water from the floor and bulk head area....... Peter as you say 'Defiantly needs some heat wrap'. or maybe an alternative route, along the bonnet line in the middle,

Just to add my bit. I fitted a KnN filter and a Cain air scoop to my Sigma.
As said in a previous post she seems much more willing to rev now. Defiantly made a positive difference.

I concur that heat shield is needed for that pipe above the manifolds. I had to replace a similar pipe on my old 4/4 CVH as the pipe also went fairly near and above the manifold causing it to melt! The intake was through the near side inner wing. Also, that high position for the intake is a better one far water pick up safety. I have a plus8 with polished stainless filter box that gets to a surface temp of 40C or above.. The trumpet goes towards my side louvres but just above them. So not getting really fresh air come in, just under bonnet air. Ideally some cold air directed to it would be nice. At the moment I can hear some induction noise as air gets sucked in when the bonnet is up, not very loud but definitely there! I need to stop looking at these threads......giving me too much to think about and do!

I just don't see how a narrow long bore like that on the MMC car can be efficient, and sitting over the exhaust manifold makes it less efficient still.
