I'm not sure what amperage is put out by chargers, but I do know that the wiring from the 12v socket is slender and also passes through part of the loom. It's always been my preference to make a direct connection from charger to battery to avoid overheating any wiring. I'm sure some will think it's unnecessary, but it's how I've always done it.

All of my vehicles have a fused Optimate connector attached to each battery.
The Optimate unit is mounted on my garage wall and is fitted with a long lead.
I tend to just top up the batteries if there has been no use for a couple of weeks

I had two float charge battery chargers from Halfords and I left two batteries connected for some months. When I came back to them, one was fine and is still usable a couple of years down the line.

The other, newer one on the newer charger was cooked dry and scrap.

I have now binned the Halfords chargers and use one from Claus Olson.

However I will not trust any charger to be left unattended.

I prefer the direct to battery method.
My ctek is set up with the battery connections they supplied.
I initially tried using the 12v socket in the glovebox but found that the connection was not 100% reliable as the plug/socket were a bit "loose".
To me it makes sense to go direct to battery as nothing else will be in the circuit, after all it is the battery that is the focus point.

I have connections to the battery but through a fused link.
The charger hangs on the wall so is well ventilated

I've done something similar and since I have a four seater I have the lead tied-up behind the battery. All neat and easy and I prefer this to clips and the 12V socket.

How do we ask Morgan to add a connector to the cars ? Anyone want to forward to the architecture and development dept hide Perhaps wrap it around a packet of decent biscuits and lob it in the main window smile

If they were to do a deal with CTEK and provide one of the connectors in a convenient location (no doubt as a chargeable option along with the charger itself) then everyone would benefit from this on new cars in the future. It would allow you to have a decent charger and easy to connect location when you returned home and were planning to leave it for a bit ? oops

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
