I was thinking about Miscellany and loosely comparing it to Mog Mag.

If the latter used similar Design, layout and type face it too could look very dated.

Whilst I appreciate the work that goes into producing Miscellany a Design make over could be a quick fix in terms of visual appeal.

Maybe MSCC could brief a Design Agency to create some alternative "looks" for the Board to consider??

This need not cost a great deal - given a clear brief.

Neil, I think the issues go far deeper than the look and feel of Miscellany. A re-design may well help but it would be rather like putting a go faster stripe on your xr2 when in fact the engine has a problem.
Doesn't it just show how little is offed from the club when a good proportion of the discussion revolves around their magazine?

Attitudes and the clubs 'culture' need to change to make it more appealing, in its current state it simply doesn't offer enough to attract people. All well and good people saying it's not what we get out of it but what we bring to it that's important, but often all that many of us can bring is our membership loyalty.

With these fundamental changes in place, even Miscellany in its current format may be looked upon as quaint and acceptable.

just sat thinking that, perhaps, MSCC, miscellany, noggins and lunch runs are absolutely perfect for a large majority of club members.

Perhaps the vociferous few on TM are in fact the minority.

The club evolved and aged to it's current form with some members who have probably been in for decades, who have also evolved and aged and, perhaps, thoroughly enjoy the current format.

The club is at a crossroads, in a similar situation to the factory. It's a time of big change.

Apologies Adrian I'm not trying to denigrate anything that you, and or others, are doing to change and improve MSCC. Speedmog is also trying to start a virtual centre, though it does appear to target the racers in the community rather than your broader based virtual centre.

Nevertheless the point I was really making is that Peter has stood for high office in MSCC and put his personal reputation on the line and that more of us need to help support him to effect change, as otherwise I feel that MSCC is in danger of becoming moribund as the financial model cannot work going forward.

At least there does appear to be a growing feeling that something needs to be done, even if as you say the process is like trying to walk through treacle!

I have suggested to Peter that there needs to be a way for members with skills and experience to contribute easily. I would certainly volunteer if they was an easy method.

Let's see what devolves from the 31st meeting.

No need to apologise at all Brian, I was just flagging up that Phil and I are trying to help, I hope others are doing so as well. I completely agree with your second paragraph, I and Peter have had many chats on how to achieve change, and I am trying to do so with a complete solution, at least on the web front, encompassing all aspects Morgan. I am hoping that you will see movement on this publicly in the near future. The treacle is being heated up and thinning, or at least I hope it is.

Ps how's the Blue Rocket?

It takes a few NCM'S before you understand the dynamics of MSCC. And there are only four meetings in a year. There's usually a burning agenda item and exchanges can drag on.

Mog Mag is different but I don't see it as better. It benefits from factory patronage and that makes a difference. It's a shame that Miscellany didn't morph in more of a Mog Mag. A single magazine which is a blend of both would be better than either.

Change will only occur if the active members today buy into it. I spent much of my latter working life 'helping' organisations change and one thing is certain that with change brings risks. One of which is that those comfortable and active in the as is organisation will leave if they do not agree to the changes and that could lead to a worse situation than exists today. Clear statements of what the vision for the club will be encompassing both tangible and intangible benefits to members. Without the vision a transformation cannot be planned and measurable activities identified. Part of the vision generation has to be identifying what is good, not so good and so what. If change happens too quickly an implosion will occur.
