Morgan, mclaren and several other companies now use superforming to produce parts for their cars.
Why are no Cobras produced this way?
I know it's not cheap, but once the moulds are produced surely an "affordable" Ali replica is on the cards?

Why would you want to make one? Even in its era , the car was a crude thing and now its completely outdated. Sodding great 7 litre yank V8 in a basic ladder type steel chassis and a body style copied from the AC Ace.

But in any case, why would you want to substitute formed ally panels for formed grp ones? In what way is one better than the other?

The Cobra is an iconic car, hugely powerful for its weight (sound familiar)
One of the best looking and known cars ever produced, What's not to like?
Aluminium bodied replicas are now made in old mig fighter factories in Poland by hand and there are considerable numbers sold throughout the world.
Ali bodied cars command a big premium over glassfible cars
Crude and outdated.......Seriously? I've heard the same said of Morgans you know......

I think you can still buy them. Al bodied too but £££££.
The tooling costs would be high. Low volume production means bigger outlay cost per car
Kit versions are available at more affordable prices but mainly GRP bodied.
The top end kits are really good versions too.
They are basically huge grunt cars with matching sound!
Having seen both original and replicas the latter top end ones do it justice.
A niche market perhaps but still a wonderful beast!

Isn't there a company in Poland doing alloy Cobra bodies?

A Maclaren is grp bodied as is the Alfa 4c and all Loti. I think what you are referring to is the "its only a kit car" attitude that usually refers to GRP imitations but IMO also applies to ally imitations

I think the AC Cobra is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced, would have one in a blink, even a replica if I could afford one. And the aluminium Kirkhams I would die for. Superformance in South Africa produce one of the best replicas.
A Morgan and a replica Cobra would make me an extremely happy man.
