So Polaris figured out a way to make the slingshot legal in the US. But Morgan failed miserably making the otherwise pretty M3W bugeyed and ugly!

Brake drum saves the day.

I went off to retrieve the errant wheel which was re-fitted with 1 nut from the other 3.

No damage to anything.

Happy daze.

Same thing happened to my dad also in an Austin an A90. Dont remember how we fixed it but we got home in it.

I had an experience with my '64 Corvair at speed where I seized a left front wheel bearing and twisted the stub axle clean off, suffering, as you say on that side of the pond the "loss of a road wheel". A term from my Triumph owners manual warning against loose wheel spinners I believe.

I successfully got it to the side of the road, singing the refrain from the famous Kenny Rogers tune: "You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Loose Wheel" rofl

The Slingshot is legal but so is the M3W. The Slingshot has been ugly... no, fugly, since day #1. What's your point again?

My point is that to comply with US laws, Polaris just added 2 lights to the middle and left the rest alone. So they kept the integrity of the original look. (Whether it was originally fugly or not is irrelevant.) Morgan completely moved the headlights from their wide stance to the middle and made it look bugeyed and hid the beautiful v-twin. It completely changes the look of the M3W. What Morgan should have done to comply with US laws is just add another set of smaller lights close in to the middle and left the current lights in their current place.

Didn't see any three wheelers at the Pau GP Historique other than the Polaris but set out below, for those who are interested, are a few pictures of some of the cars there were.

I do frequently get asked if I built it. This week a car full of 18-20 year olds pulled up at a stop. One asked, "Excuse me sir, where did you get a car like that?" I was about to make up a BS answer, but the young kid asked so politiely that I respectfully gave him the truth. I don't get "excuse me sir" much anymore.

My favorite was another slightly older kid passing in the opposite direction slowly. "Is that a Morgan Three Wheeler?"
"Yes it is!"
"That's f#%@-ing awesome!"
