I have most if not all available handbooks on the Standard Special engine but cannot find any information on the purpose and other connection point of a copper tube approx 3mm ID with male end fitting that comes from(or goes to) the female threaded port in the underside of the inlet manifold.
Only one drawing shows this line end but not where it goes to.

Could it be for cold start to the carb or some sort pf crank case ventilation for early emissions controls?

Where is WA are you Brian?

G'day Brian
Could it possibly be the suction tube for the vacuum wiper system.
I do not have access to my reference books this weekend as we are at our daughters by Palmerston North but will check when I get back perhaps on tuesday.

yep agaree with the fuel overfill or drain it is on ours...you need a pipe venting under the car to ground! Just like the oil breathers on the block. 2015-04-07 08.12.23 by Robert & Ali Davies, on Flickr

I like the test bed, did you build that?

I don't know anything about these old engines but if the pipe attached to the manifold is open to drain, doesn't it affect the manifold vacuum or does it have a tap or one way valve? I'm curious.

BTW, I love the Flickr link to the rebuild.
