I am on my second PCB and even that has part failed.
It would be great if someone could build better ones or offer a repair service.

Vibration could be a big factor. The first time I inspected the control box there was a rattling. The pcb was loose inside. I gently checked it , including light pressing of the chip (looked like eprom) before hot melt gluing it back. It worked for a while but more vibrations could well have caused the poor joints I eventually found, to fail. The box was screwed to the ash frame behind the dash. Maybe I should have put some vibration damping in ...rubber/neoprene. No problems since though.

Ok Bob, perhaps I missed his point by focussing on the function of a flyback diode.

No offence meant. I agree with what you say.

I think the plethora of diodes is really all about quenching any high rise transients reaching and damaging the ECU it's what my Morgan/Classics Guru tells me.

Having worked extensively with Fairchild early 3.6volt rail and subsequently TTL came along with a 5volt rail and suppression was king I am in concord with his logic.

Christmas came early as I heard from BHM they have at last received a replacement PCB for my 4/4 from the Factory. I've been waiting since August
Seems this time my letter to the MD only sent last week resulted in a positive outcome!

Great news but don’t celebrate too early. You haven’t got the bill yet! I have heard of horror stories of £550+....

But it would be £550 plus installation. I know from bitter experience.

Thank goodness it’s a warranty job.
However, your experience begs the question as to how a letter to the MD suddenly produces the goods? Unless he’s knocking them up in his garden shed of an evening, it would appear that the item was readily available in some way at the factory. I have had experiences of ordering a part from a main dealer only to be told it’s out of stock and unless I do chase ups, the order seems to disappear into the ether! Who should take the blame? Factory, for not having spares in the first place or dealer, for not having a robust follow up system.

Well after having the PCB replaced after waiting the best part four months for the Factory to supply one it failed again. Fortunately BHM had one in stock so I'm now on to my third! My warranty expires next month!!
