I've heard a lot of good things about JB Weld - there's an amusing You tube video where a bloke cuts a chunk out of a cylinder head with a grinder, fixes it with JB Weld and gets the engine running!

Is the crossbar just there for the radiator, or is it adding front stiffness? How important is it that it is adjusted back to the same place it started?

I think it's both. It appears to stop the wing tops splaying. I've removed mine a couple of times and just refitted it with the wing position as the guide. I imagine the main flex is during use. It might be worth measuring the distance first to make sure it goes back exactly.

Before I remove the crossbar I mark the position of the nuts with a dab of white paint, I can then position it exactly as it came off on replacement.

+1 for JB Weld but never used it on a radiator, or for cylinder head repairs

OK, so here is the follow up. I found that the radiator had been repaired with epoxy in the past, so my idea of soldering the leak might be dead. I sealed the ports and put 5 psi on it, placing it in a tub of water. The leak was coming from behind the top mounting bracket. I decided the only course of action was to inject some epoxy in from both sides. Worked perfectly. The radiator is back in the car and as is well. I found that removing the grill made the job much easier.[Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]
