Needed a new tyre on my ZX10, but it's a funny size (18") and really expensive. Had a ZZR1100 rear wheel knocking around, and 17" tyre in the spare room, so with a few spacers and a bit of fettling, fitted it into the bike. Bit wider as well, so looks more meaty. Treated her to a new chain and sprocket set....

Does that change the gearing on the bike?

Very slightly, I've gone from 160/60x18 to 180/55x17. According to comparison sites, at an indicated 90mph (assuming accuracy) she'll only be doing 87mph.

Potentially she'll accelerate quicker, but as she'll do 0-60 in a smidge over 3 secs anyway so I don't think I'll notice!

We have friends coming round this evening for socially isolated drinks. Weather forecast is a little on the damp side at times this evening. I looked at getting a garden parasol but they are £100+ and, I am told, not much use in anything above a light breeze.

Time for a quick bodge. An hour later and over £100 saved.

Great but I thought the 1 meter plus SD wasnt coming in until midnight by which time it will be dark as well as raining. Perhaps you could add candle holders?

Forgive me asking but when it rains won’t the new shorted down pipes from the guttering give the game away?

Today I have automated the garage door by repacing the old Catmatic system. The bodge is that I have managed to get the new system to work with the old blippers saving the ridiculous cost of buying two extra new blippers on the new higher frequency. And I managed to bodge a longer connecting arm and a 70 mm lower mount.

But lets be honest - any other retiree with lost of time and little money would have done the same.
