I have a single Tenax (I think) stud on my 4/4’s crash pad. I don’t have a tonneau cover. Why is it there?

It's for the tonneau cover you don't have.

Yep, I have one just off centre for the cover - it doubles up as a fastener for my dash mounted rear view mirror, (Just to the left). Although mine is a 'Lift the Dot' fastener.

Concur. Lift the dot on mine for the tonneau cover. Mine has a single zip so it can be used when only the driver on board. Stud holds the tonneau cover over the passenger area.

Not sure how long it was the norm, but if you didn't order a tonneau cover you didn't get that fastener on the dash top rail.

My 2012 was ordered and delivered like that.

Yes, Lift The Dot; got confused with the naming. As I only have that one I assume I cannot fit a tonneau (if I had had one). Maybe they fit the stud as standard and later fit the rest further down the production line if the customer has ordered one.

A tonneau cover uses the hood fittings on the rear plus a couple of extra studs ( mine are press on poppers) on the doors and on the ends of the “crash pad”.
