OK Dave. Another person on here told me he had stopped. He makes great stuff so this is good news.

The Mulfab wheel spanner is a great piece of kit and makes wheel removal a breeze . [Linked Image]

I also have the Lionel Wheel Widget removal tool that I’ve used once which I’m happy to sell on if anyone is interested.

Thanks John. This is the direction I was eventually going to take: having moved recently I don't have all those old bits and bobs in the garage that I used to have to adapt and improve on tools.

When my rear spinners seized a local garage extended the standard removal tool with a length of scaffold pole from a skip - worked a treat!

My wire wheels are always a right difficulty to undo. The reason is simple in that my stainless wires are painted black. The paint has got onto the hub & nut cap. Whilst I have cleaned up the hub contact face, the nut is not so easy to do & I have yet to Dremel clean the inside. There always seems to be a more important thing to do. So far a bit of heat & a scaffolding pole to extend the “ breaker “ bar has worked.

Can I suggest a dab of brake cleaner. Really softens the paint and makes it a doddle to remove.

This is available from scparts.co.uk, 01293 847200
It's listed as 'Special tool' for 42mm octagonal spinners, 3/4" drive, part no. 479748. Cost is £48 inc vat ( same as 2018)

This has 3 great advantages. No dented wings, ditto wheel rims. The best bit is you can use a torque wrench. I started with 60ftlbs and marked the spinners against a marked spoke. I found only one of the self tightening spinners moved (tighter). At 80ftlbs there has been no movement at all.

Why beat the sh*t out of your spinners with a hammer to silly ftlbs when you can easily set them all at a modest torque value and easily get them undone again without the need of a 10 foot spanner? ooo
I know some one will have been using a hammer for 80 years without a problem but we can all have an off day! No finantial interest and no hammer.
