No such thing as a stupid question. Not asking & staying mushroom is stupid. There are several threads on here about engine covers. I'm sure GDI owners will respond.

A functional cover can be home fabricated using aluminium sheet and a good few hours in the garage.

I have the carbon one from Williams, works well but only fit certain Duratec engines and did require a bit of Dremelling to fit.

This was my Duratec cover. A simple aluminium plate contoured to fit works well.
And my GDI, now with a neoprene edge, but was just added in this image.
