100% agree with this, The metal "strap" is great to squeeze into the tight space around the filter.

I have a plastic handled rubber strap remover which is far better than the chain wrench as it never slips - in use for 30 years now.

I recently had to resort to my trusty chain and breakers bar to shift a filter off some old vauxhall engine for a pal, goodness knows who'd fitted it last !

On mine it's fitted to a half inch socket which distorts the filter as it bites, as way say oop north...shifts owt !

Just be careful you don't damage the sensor which is next to the filter during your strenuous efforts!!!!!!!!

Today my new oil filter remover arrived, I bought a Spurtar adjustable oil filter wrench 60-80mm, which I could just about get onto the filter. Even with it the oil filter wasn't easy to remove. It must have been put on by a gorilla but thankfully the job is now done.

Did you try the large socket device that fits the end of the filter? It attaches to a socket wrench.

I have both the adjustable strap as well as the socket. Strap works every time. The socket sometimes doesn't as the oil filter may have the right indentation or none at all.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Something to consider for the future, the K&N Filter KN171B has a socket drive on the bottom and makes this a much easier operation than the original S&S 31-4103 filter. You can also wire lock them on for extra security if you fancy. It filters pretty much the same and costs less as well. Chain wrenches won't fit with the M3W as the clearance is small around the filter, some strap wrenches work though. These filters don't need screwing up like your life depends on it, just a nip.
