Talk Morgan Forums Thread Like Summary - CX cars - how are they purchased?

Just heard from a reliable source that many, if not most, CX cars are bought on PCP. If this is true can we expect to see them on the market in three years time and at what level of depreciation - just wondering?

It's sad to hear the negative vibes coming from Trad owners regarding the newer models, it was exactly the same gripes the early adopters of the Aero had to endure.If you think a 2018 plus four gdi or roadster is vintage carry on dreaming. This loyal customer stuff keeps resurfacing from people who never take their cars back to the factory for servicing or have any intention of changing their cars. Morgan can only survive with new car sales the outgoing roadster fully loaded was nearly 70K there are quite a few gdi still out there at 50K. And ask any dealer out there Trads have changed hands much more in the last 10yrs. I feel very fortunate to own one of the newer car's and after having four this without shadow of doubt is the best and will be used the most. Nearly every roadtest done over the last three years the testers have heaped praise on the cars are they all wrong I think not. Let's just enjoy whatever Morgan you drive still hand built with a wooden tub ....Em

I’ve posted this before, mine is on a PCP, circa £650 per month, 10,000 miles per year, guaranteed future value £48k. Mine was second hand from factory and very high spec. 18 months left, and I estimate it will have 40 to 45,000 miles on when ballon payment due, which I won’t be paying, as I will change it for another plus 6.
I don’t want 85k of my cash in a car, as I never intended to keep it for ever from day one.

There is a lot of negatives on here about Morgan. Lots of Trad owners buy and keep forever, which is great if that floats your boat. I would imagine, dare I say, these owners are of a certain maturity, and it’s the older generation who would still buy a trad. When I had a trad that I kept for a short period of time because I loathed it, I asked my teenage kids, who are all driving what you would do with it if I dropped dead tomorrow. They, and my wife said get rid of it ASAP. They hated it. The plus 6 is a different machine, they like it and my wife drives it.

Morgan in Malvern, service, MOT and look after my car. I’m defo a young owner. Going to the meets on a Saturday at Malvern makes my wife and I feel like teenagers. We almost feel out of place.,Morgan need us younger buyers, who wear jeans, trainers and wrap round raybands, don’t own a pair of slacks, and carry wicker picnic sets with a tin tartan flask.

I considered myself very lucky , that 650 per month on a pcp isn’t that noticeable, therefore PCP works for me. You pay the money, have no maintenance costs because of warranty, insure, tax it and change the rubber and drive it all the time. I certainly don’t want to own it outright, because I know I’m going to hammer it.

Another example is the lorries and tractors we run. A new 300 hp fendt tractor , of which we have 5 , we change every 5000 hours or 3 years. They are on an equivalent to pcp. If we paid the ballon at end and the thing starts going wrong which it definitely will , we are into bills for maintenance for thousands. We got caught a few years back, 20k bill for gear box. A fixed monthly cost lets us know where we are from a budget perspective.

Lorries the same, 200k for new Scania, yet a payment of 2000 per month allows you to run smart new kit under full warranty with repairs and maintenance included. Then get an another new one. Even with interest rates going up, the extra interest is small in the big scheme of what the lorry is capable of earning you.

It will get that way that not many people will actually never own a vehicle outright.

I would guess most people on here, who would enter into a PCP, know exactly what they are signing up to.

Very well said Aerotaff. Its a real shame that some people get a lot of pleasure from these negative vibes and although I’ve had various Morgan’s over the years, this is the main reason I very rarely post on here. As for me I love all Morgan’s and long live MMC.

Good point Heinz, my car driven nearly every day, hence high milage, put up with all the quirks, drafts and leaks, like in pouring rain on A49 yesterday, and although the car is properly filthy, it still looks cool parked in Ledbury high street when I went for a coffee at Greggs!

I suppose I can’t stand too much negativity. I keep away from negative moaning people in life, hence why a few people on these forums boil my p**s.

If you don’t like the CX , get rid and get something else. If you don’t like Morgan as a company, don’t deal with them. End of the day nobody really cares.

Isn't the VED £645 (from 2016) made up of 2 elements the £180 pa for the life of the car and the balance £465 pa for the first 5 years because the car is over £40k to purchase new,.

I've only had the pleasure of a long test drive in a CX and I was very impressed having jumped straight out of my Roadster 4 seater into the demonstrator. It felt well put together, handled well and smoothed out the undulations and was pretty quick to boot, no axle tramp and a pleasure to drive. It was so modern it feel like driving my wife's Mercedes cabriolet, in a classic body shape.

The wider body /cabin space felt a little bit more exposed with the side screens removed, I didn't feel as hugged in the car and it felt at first more akin to sitting on the car rather than low within the car ,the brakes didn't give you much confidence, but that's been addressed now. They are a very good car, that I could easily travel vast distances in, that hopefully prove to be more reliable than the trads, all I seem to read about outside the hopefully now past rad/brake issue, is mainly issues with water leaks. A very promising sign for the future.

I've had to give up the Roadster due to injuring my back at Xmas, just too uncomfortable to depress the clutch, but I'm seriously looking at an automatic CX, as it will allow both myself and the wife to drive which is something Sue couldn't do with the Roadster, the controls ie steering, clutch, brakes were just too heavy for her to handle. So its clearly a case of horses for courses.
